Timberon Lions
Club
The Timberon Lions Club has 20
members and has been actively serving the community
since it was chartered in February, 1982. They have
placed street signs and built the pavilion behind
the Timberon Lodge, including the picnic tables.
With the help of other Lions Clubs and an Alamogordo doctor, a
young man living in Timberon had his sight restored
through surgery. Eye glasses have been purchased for
a number of residents in Timberon and transportation
provided for vision exams.
The club has given donations to: Smith Memorial Library, The
Timberon Volunteer Fire Department, Timberon
Development Council, The Timberon Parade Committee
and the community food pantry. They also contribute
to local, state and national charities – Leader Dog
for the Blind, Diabetes Awareness, New Mexico Eye
Screening Van, and Lions Clubs International
Foundation. LCIF gives thousands of dollars each
year in grants for disasters, including $10,000 to
victims of the Scott Able fire.
Recently in the aftermath of Katrina, the Lions Club, in
cooperation with the Timberon Development Council
and the Mountaintop Daylight Lodge #81, shipped over
700 pounds of clothing and tools to the victims in
Mississippi and Florida.
Schedule of meetings... The Lions Club meets on the second and
fourth Thursday of the month at 6:30pm in the Lions
Den, 186 Merlin Drive in Timberon. For information,
call Jean Bergstrom at 505-987-2446.
